Chapter 23
JULIET
“THIS IS unbelievable,” I marveled, spinning as I walked along the cool marble barefoot.
The great room was truly well named. No other words could better describe it. I’d never seen windows so large, except in a department store. And these weren’t even windows, doors, or walls. It was a glass wall, that could fold in to expand the living room to include the pool. And what a pool it was, an optical illusion that made it appear as though there was no ending. Nick said it was an infinity pool. Beyond that was a view of the beach that looked like a photograph.
It was so beautiful, so perfect. The sun was creating a showcase for the crystal blue water of the sea. I’d never seen water so beautiful before. You could see right down to the seafloor. Some parts were darker blue than others. Lucia had explained the darker areas had coral, a sight she recommended we saw up close.
“Let’s go upstairs.” Nick wrapped his arms around me, our bodies moving slowly to extend the embrace.
We were inseparable since we left the bedroom on the private jet. The connection I’d felt between us from the first night we met had strengthened to something that honestly scared me. I’d never felt so strongly for a man, but being with him explained why I hadn’t.
It was all in preparation for meeting the right man, which I now knew was much more important than meeting a man in general. Nick was a dream, always concerned with my happiness, and knew no limits to making me happy.
And in the bedroom… my eyes closed at just the thought of it. He had a way of molding my body to his, until I couldn’t tell where he ended and I began. It was like we became one. Me, a slave to his pleasure, addicted to the feeling that only he could bring me. Even if there was another person in the world who would take me to such highs, I didn’t want him. Only him. I was Nick’s, forever.
A winding staircase led to the upper level. I’d never seen so many stairs in a private residence, but I guess it made sense given the extremely high ceilings. From the outside, I figured there had to be four floors in the largest home I’d ever laid eyes on. As the boat arrived, I thought that it was a hotel until Lucia explained differently.
For there to only be four bedrooms felt wasteful, certain they could comfortably fit at least ten in a space so large. When we walked into the first bedroom, I understood luxury for the first time. More than a room for sleeping, it was a sanctuary and haven. A reading nook sat along the far bay window, overlooking the endless palm trees lining the back of the house. A long sofa and two loveseats were just beneath the TV, essentially providing a private living room just for the bedroom.
The next room was slightly larger, decorated in light greens, where the first room had favored yellow.
